Cookin

1. Who we are

Cookin is a recipe app made by Bein LTD ("Bein", "we", "us"). It turns links, videos and cookbook photos into recipes you keep. This policy explains what information Cookin processes, where it goes, and the choices you have. It applies to the Cookin app on iOS and Android. For the purposes of data protection law, Bein LTD is responsible for the processing described here. You can reach us at dan@bein.ltd.

3. What stays on your device

Cookin has no backend. Everything you create or import (recipes, cookbooks, tags, ratings, notes, grocery lists, pantry items and food preferences) is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to us, and we could not read it if we wanted to: we operate no server that receives it.

On-device AI. Recipe parsing, generation, substitutions and chat run on your device. Your prompts, your recipes and the AI's answers never leave your phone. The AI model is downloaded once from a public model host; that download is an ordinary web request, and the host may log standard technical data such as your IP address. If Burnin, our other app, is installed and has already downloaded the model, Cookin uses that copy directly on the device instead, and nothing is transmitted.

Camera, photos and files. With your permission, Cookin reads cookbook photos, images, PDFs and videos you choose. Text in them is recognised on the device.

4. Importing recipes

From a link. When you import a recipe from a link, Cookin fetches that page or video information directly from the site you gave it, such as a recipe site or a video platform. The site sees an ordinary web request from your device and handles it under its own privacy policy. Cookin adds no tracking to these requests. Imported recipes keep a link to their source; if you open it, you are visiting that site.

From a video. To read a recipe that is spoken in a video, Cookin recognises the speech on your device. On phones that can't recognise speech on the device, Cookin skips the audio rather than sending it anywhere, and reads only the text shown in the video.

From a file. You can import a recipe file or a library export from another app or device. The file is read on your device.

5. Anonymous usage analytics

Cookin sends a small set of usage events to PostHog, an analytics service hosted in the European Union.

• No identity. Events carry a random identifier created when the app is installed. Cookin has no accounts, and we never collect your name, email or contacts.
• No content. Events never include recipe titles or text, links you import, grocery or pantry items, AI prompts, chat messages or preference values. They are limited to feature names, counts, durations and outcomes, for example "a link import from a video platform succeeded, with 8 ingredients".
• No location. Cookin does not use location services, and location lookup from your network address is turned off. As with any web request, events reach PostHog from your IP address.

We use this data in aggregate and make no attempt to identify anyone from it. Because it is not linked to you, we cannot pick out and delete one person's events.

6. Legal bases

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with similar law, we rely on our legitimate interests in understanding how the app is used and where it fails (section 5). Requests to the sites you import from happen because you asked for them, to provide the feature you are using.

7. Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell your information, and Cookin contains no advertising and no ad networks. The only third parties involved are the ones named above:

• PostHog (EU hosting): anonymous analytics.
• Sites you import from: the request for the recipe you asked for.
• The AI model host: the one-time model download.
• Apple and Google: the app stores and operating systems Cookin runs on, under their own terms.

Some of these services operate outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is limited to the information described for that service.

8. How long data is kept

Data on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. We hold no copy. Anonymous analytics events are kept only as long as they are useful for understanding how the app is used. Data received by the sites you import from or the model host is kept under their own policies.

9. Your choices and rights

• Take your data with you. Cookin can export your whole library as a file saved wherever you choose, and can import recipes from other apps.
• Delete it. Delete recipes in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall Cookin to remove everything it stored on your device.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data about you. Because we hold none of your library and our analytics are not linked to you, most requests can be met on your device. Write to dan@bein.ltd for anything else. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Security

Your library is protected by your device's own security, including its lock screen and encryption. Everything Cookin sends over the network travels encrypted (HTTPS) wherever the destination supports it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but keeping your data off servers removes the largest risk: there is no database of users to breach.

11. Children

Cookin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Personal content stays on the device and analytics are anonymous, so no such data reaches us. If you believe a child has given us personal information through another channel, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If what Cookin does with data changes, for example if a future version adds an optional cloud feature, we will update this page before the change ships and revise the effective date at the top.
