Cookin

Bein built the Cookin app as a free app. This SERVICE is provided by Bein at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page informs visitors of the policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information for anyone using the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Your recipes stay on your device

Cookin is built without a backend. Everything you create or import — recipes, cookbooks, tags, ratings, notes, grocery lists, pantry items, and your food preferences — is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to us, and we could not read it if we wanted to: we operate no server that receives it.

The optional library export creates a file on your device that you control and share at your own discretion.

On-device AI

Cookin's AI features (recipe parsing, generation, substitutions, chat) run entirely on your device using a locally downloaded model. Your prompts, your recipes, and the AI's answers never leave your phone. Downloading the model file contacts a content delivery network, which — like any web server — may log standard technical data such as your IP address.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features are used and where the app fails, Cookin collects a small set of anonymous usage events using PostHog, hosted in the European Union.

What this analytics data is:

• Anonymous. Events carry only a random identifier generated at install. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, or any account identity — Cookin has no accounts.
• Free of your content. We never transmit recipe titles or text, URLs you import, grocery or pantry item names, AI prompts, chat messages, or preference values. Events are limited to feature names, counts, durations, and outcomes (for example: "a URL import from a video platform succeeded, with 8 ingredients").
• Approximate location only. We do not use your device's location services for analytics, and no precise location is collected. Our analytics provider derives an approximate location, at around country level, from the network address your events arrive from.

This data cannot be used to identify you, and we do not attempt to. Because it is anonymous, we also cannot single out and delete "your" events afterwards — there is no way to know which are yours.

Information fetched at your request

When you import a recipe from a link, Cookin fetches that page or video data directly from the website you provided (for example a recipe site or video platform). That site sees a normal web request from your device, governed by its own privacy policy. Cookin adds no tracking to these requests.

Cookies

This Service does not use cookies. Third-party code used by the app may include cookie-like technology; Cookin does not use it to track you.

Service providers

Cookin uses the following third-party service:

• PostHog (EU) — anonymous product analytics, as described above.

Cookin contains no advertising and no ad networks.

Security

Your data stays on your device, protected by your device's own security. For the anonymous analytics described above, data is transmitted encrypted (HTTPS). No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Links to other sites

Imported recipes keep a link to their original source. If you tap one, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by us, and we have no control over and assume no responsibility for their content, privacy policies, or practices.

Children's privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since all personal content stays on the device and analytics are anonymous, no such data reaches us; if you believe a child has provided personal information through some other channel, contact us and it will be deleted.

Changes to this privacy policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page. You are advised to review this page periodically. Significant changes (for example, if a future version adds optional cloud features) will be reflected here before they ship.
