Burnin
Stop guessing your metabolism. Measure it.
Every other calorie app picks a formula, plugs in your height, age and sex, and calls the result your metabolic rate. Then it never checks whether it was right.
The problem
A formula is a population average.
You are not a population. And the number it picks on day one is the number it keeps.
Mifflin-St Jeor is a population average. Your real energy expenditure depends on how much you fidget, how much muscle you carry, what you've been eating for the last month, and a dozen things no questionnaire captures. On top of that, self-reported food intake is underestimated by around 47% on average — so even a perfect formula would be fed bad numbers.
The result is familiar: you do everything the app says, the weight doesn't move, and the app has nothing to offer except the implication that you're lying about your food.
The fix
Measurement, not willpower.
Burnin closes the loop. It watches what you logged and what the scale actually did, and solves for the number that reconciles them — over and over.
- You log what you ate — roughly is fine, as long as it's consistent.
- Your weight trend says what your body actually did with it.
- Burnin solves for the number that reconciles the two, on the device.
- That becomes your real burn rate — and tomorrow refines it again.
That's your real maintenance intake, including whatever systematic bias exists in your logging. It doesn't need your logging to be accurate. It needs it to be consistent.
What that means day to day
The number adapts to you.
- Adaptive TDEE. Re-estimated continuously from rolling windows of your own data.
- Forecasts as ranges. Weight predictions come with confidence bands, because a single number would be a lie about how bodies work.
- Plateaus get explained. When the model's estimate moves, it tells you, and by how much.
- Trend over noise. Daily weight is mostly water. Burnin shows you the line through it.
Logging
Seconds, not a data-entry chore.
Logging happens in a chat. Type it, say it out loud, scan a barcode, pick a saved meal, or photograph the plate — everything lands in the same editable draft card before it's saved. The photo and speech understanding run on a model executing on your phone.
Widgets
On your Home Screen and Lock Screen.
Calories remaining as a circular gauge on the Lock Screen, macros left in the rectangular one, and a fuller widget on the Home Screen. Tap either and you're in the log.
Where your data lives
On your phone. There is no Burnin account and no Burnin server. Your weight history, your food log and your meal photos never go anywhere. The app sends anonymous usage events — which screens get opened, how often a feature is used — with no identity attached and no content. That's the whole extent of it.
What it costs
Nothing. Burnin is free, supported by a single banner on the profile tab. Ads never appear on the logging screens and never affect a calculation. We'll eventually offer a paid tier for cross-device sync — the parts that genuinely cost us money to run — but everything that happens on your phone will stay free, because serving it costs us nothing.
