Burnin

Bein built the Burnin app as an ad-supported app. This SERVICE is provided by Bein at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page informs visitors of the policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information for anyone using the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Your data stays on your device

Burnin is built without a backend. Everything you log — meals, foods, portions, meal photos, weight entries, goals and your profile — is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to us, and we could not read it if we wanted to: we operate no server that receives it.

Your metabolic rate is calculated on the device from your own logging and weight history. That calculation happens locally; the inputs and the result stay with you.

On-device AI

Burnin's AI features — understanding a meal you describe in plain language, reading a photo of a plate, and interpreting speech — run entirely on your device using a locally downloaded model. Your text, your photos and your voice never leave your phone. Downloading the model file contacts a content delivery network, which — like any web server — may log standard technical data such as your IP address.

If a device cannot run the model, those features are unavailable on that device. They are never sent to a server instead.

Widgets

Burnin's Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read the figures they display from a shared container on your own device. Nothing is transmitted to show a widget.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features are used and where the app fails, Burnin collects a small set of anonymous usage events using PostHog, hosted in the European Union.

• Anonymous. Events carry only a random identifier generated at install. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, or any account identity — Burnin has no accounts.
• Free of your content. We never transmit food names, meal photos, weight values, goals or any figure from your log. Events are limited to feature names, counts, durations and outcomes.
• Approximate location only. We do not use your device's location services for analytics, and no precise location is collected. Our analytics provider derives an approximate location, at around country level, from the network address your events arrive from.

This data cannot be used to identify you, and we do not attempt to. Because it is anonymous, we also cannot single out and delete "your" events afterwards — there is no way to know which are yours.

Advertising

Burnin is free and is supported by a single banner advertisement, shown only on the profile tab. Ads never appear on the logging screens and never affect a calculation.

That banner is served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may collect device and usage identifiers, and it operates under Google's privacy policy rather than this one. This is the one part of Burnin where a third party may receive an identifier associated with your device. Your food log, weight history and photos are never shared with it.

You can limit ad personalisation in your device settings — "Personalised ads" on Android, or "Allow Apps to Request to Track" on iOS.

Cookies

This Service does not use cookies. Third-party code used by the app, including the ad network above, may use cookie-like technology; Burnin does not use it to track you.

Service providers

Burnin uses the following third-party services:

• PostHog (EU) — anonymous product analytics, as described above.
• Google AdMob — the profile-tab banner, as described above.
• Google Play Services — on Android, for standard platform functions.

Security

Your data stays on your device, protected by your device's own security. For the anonymous analytics described above, data is transmitted encrypted (HTTPS). No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Links to other sites

This Service may contain links to other sites, including advertisements. If you tap one you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by us, and we have no control over and assume no responsibility for their content, privacy policies, or practices.

Children's privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since all personal content stays on the device and analytics are anonymous, no such data reaches us; if you believe a child has provided personal information through some other channel, contact us and it will be deleted.

Changes to this privacy policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page. You are advised to review this page periodically. Significant changes will be reflected here before they ship.
